 Post subject: Too much distortion/VCI 300 Unresponsive often

I attached my VCI 300 to Yamaha EMX 312sc Powered Mixer and there's a lot of distortion coming from the speakers. Also my VCI 300 goes unresponsive a lot and sometimes there's no sound coming from the headphones or the speakers. Any help/suggestions would be very helpful.
